In our previous blog, we offered ideas for the school fete. Let us offer you alternative ideas that are best suited to the summer term. Depending on resources, we hope the following primary school fundraising ideas will spark imaginations.
PTA Refreshment Stalls
The school calendar is often filled with events where parents, siblings and other guests are invited to come along. These include Sports Day and end of year performances. At any of these events, visitors welcome the opportunity to grab a drink and snack. With willing volunteers, the PTA could run refreshment stalls at every opportunity.
Transition Information Evenings
The summer term presents the chance for prospective parents to visit the school. This can be an opportune time to run a PTA stands selling pre-loved uniform, P.E. kit and books.
The interaction at the stall allows prospective parents to ask about the school. It is also a great place to promote PTA events and progress towards the fundraising target!
Out-of-school Activities
The take up of after-school and even weekend activities is often high. Could your PTA invite specialists in to run one-off events? Suggestions include circus skills or African drumming workshops, basic bike maintenance or Lego Brickies. A coach could teach a sporting skill, whilst a ’Paint your own t-shirt’ or other art sessions would appeal to creative children.
Sponsored Events
The school field is the ideal venue for an organised sponsored event. These could challenge parents, children or families. Your PTA fundraiser could take the form of a zumbathon, 10-hour relay walk or rounders match or even a (professionally run) firewalk!
Tea Towel Fundraiser
An incredibly popular fundraiser any time of year is a school tea towel fundraiser. Children can create their own self portrait (or handprints/footprints for younger children) and then have them printed onto cotton tea towels. These are then sold to parents at a profit. The School Fundraising project allows the children to have their self portraits recreated in full colour, which makes the final towels much more colourful.
Host a Family Picnic
The school field is a great venue for a family picnic. It could be divided into several events for different year groups. If this replaces the summer fete, you might choose to arrange a performance of young talent.
To generate funds, how about a family quiz or bingo? Activities such as ‘Create your own fruit juice mocktail’, biscuit decorating and sales of ice lollies (if you have access to a freezer), along with inflatable slides or bouncy castles are popular.
Father’s Day Fundraisers
June is Father’s Day and at School Fundraising, we offer the chance for children’s artwork to be printed onto a mug and/or card that they can present to their dad or grandad. If this Father’s Day PTA fundraiser get in touch now. This maximises the time to process orders and get the designs back to school in time.
Put on an Event for Parents
Sometimes parents relish the opportunity for a night off, so what would appeal? Pamper evenings are popular with mums. If there is a beauty course at your local college, their students may need to build a portfolio of work. This could provide a cost-effective way to offer manicures or facials where everyone benefits.
A glass of Pimms on arrival could be included in the ticket price, with other refreshments available to buy. Consider inviting relevant stallholders too.
Grow your Own Plant Stall
With sufficient prior notice, plants and veg could be grown for a sale. If you have a school gardening club, they could contribute. Can you encourage green-fingered parents and grandparents to get involved?
For additional supplies, a local allotment society might be willing to provide excess pots, plants or crops. A garden centre or DIY store could also be approached for donations. Any unsold items could be planted up around the school.
Don’t Forget the School Leavers
We will post a blog focused on school leavers after the Easter Holidays, but with memorable events, leaver’s hoodies and other merchandise the PTA can help give them a super send-off.
This selection of suggestions may have sparked ideas that are perfect for your school. We wish your PTA every success with all the fundraising events; let’s make it a summer of fun!
